Arts, Beats and Eats 2024

Arts, Beats and Eats Video Series

In 2024, Baker College proudly sponsored the Soaring Eagle Arts, Beats, and Eats Festival in Royal Oak. Taking a fresh approach to traditional displays, the MarCom department chose to craft a series of engaging videos that showcased students from its affiliated institution, the Culinary Institute of Michigan. These videos played throughout the weekend on the Baker College stage. This innovative approach connected Baker College with the audience in a dynamic, memorable way, bringing its story to life on a lively, public platform.

What I Did

I collaborated with the Creative Director to develop an engaging series of recipe videos tailored for the festival audience. Together, we strategized on how to bring these culinary creations to life in a way that would captivate and resonate with viewers. I conducted interviews to capture compelling voiceovers, filmed the chefs as they crafted their dishes, and handled all editing, including text overlays, to create the final product.

Commencement Celebrations

Commencement Celebrations

Each spring, Baker College hosts a single, large commencement ceremony, uniting graduates from all six campuses. Capturing a diverse array of images and video is essential to share this milestone across the college’s website, social media channels, and marketing materials, highlighting the pride and achievement of Baker’s graduating class.

What I Did

As the sole photographer, videographer, and editor on staff at Baker College, I coordinate and execute all visual coverage for commencement ceremonies on behalf of the MarCom team. I designate one teammate to assist with photography, equipping us with up to four cameras to capture a full range of photos and video assets. After the event, I edit both my own and my teammate’s photos and produce video highlights that showcase the ceremony's most memorable moments.

Meet the Swarm Esports Series

Meet the Swarm Video Series

In 2024, Baker College established its first varsity Esports team, The Swarm. The Director of Esports requested a series of videos be created to introduce our players to the Baker College community.

The request was that the videos be gritty, fun and make an impact in viewers. He also requested they be shot 1920x1080, as most of his viewership was on Twitter/X.

What I Did

Over the course of a week, I met with the members of the Esport Team to capture all the photography and video assets we would need for the academic year, as the players were based across the country. During these times, I took portraits, editorial shots, video interviews and b-roll.

For this project, I produced, directed, shot and edited a string of five videos for this series to be released weekly across The Swarm's social channels.

Faculty, Student and Alumni Interviews

Interview Series

Interviews offer a unique way to convey important information in an engaging format. By allowing individuals to share their thoughts and experiences directly, interviews make ideas more relatable and stories more personal. Through thoughtful questions and authentic responses, viewers not only gain valuable insights but also feel a closer connection to the subject.

What I Did

For every interview video, I start by meeting with the department head, program director or subject matter expert to learn more about their goals and their department.  From there, I develop relevant questions tailored to the individual’s expertise and story. I handle the filming process to capture both the interview and complementary b-roll footage. When shooting, I aim to help subjects feel at ease so they can share their insights authentically. Finally, I edit the footage to highlight key moments and shape a narrative that keeps viewers engaged while effectively conveying the subject’s story.

In Their Words: Creating and Curating Art

In Their Words: Creating and Curating Artwork for Baker College of Royal Oak

What I Did

In this video, we dive into the creative minds behind the artwork commissioned by Baker College of Royal Oak. Through exclusive interviews, artists and curators share the inspirations, challenges, and personal connections that shape their pieces.

In this project, I interviewed artists and curators commissioned by Baker College of Royal Oak to learn about the inspirations behind their artwork. I filmed both the interviews and b-roll to capture their creative process, then edited the footage into a cohesive video that highlights their perspectives and motivations.

Social Media Video

Social Media: Reels and TikTok

What I Did

Vertical videos, optimized for mobile viewing, perform best on platforms like Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and Facebook Stories. By tailoring video content for these formats, the College reaches wider audiences and creates more immersive, shareable experiences.

For these vertical social media videos, I handled the entire production process, including shooting, editing, and storytelling, to create platform-optimized content. I also occasionally step in as on-camera talent, as in the Countdown to Commencement video, to interact with students and create personality dynamics.
